Legendary Colleagues Giving Back to Their Communities 08.27.2018 | Morgan E. Wiedmann

Legendary Colleagues Giving Back to Their Communities

Our colleagues are not only providing Legendary Service to our clients and transferees but also to people in need in their communities.

This is a testament to what makes us unique; our Legendary Service culture is one of our strongest attributes, manifested in our commitment to helping, collaborating and living the WeCARE principles.

Between the exceptional service we deliver, and ongoing social responsibility efforts, our colleagues embrace Legendary Service daily.

As we often say, we believe in Legendary Service: Extraordinary Performance, Because WeCARE!

From the day I came to Weichert in 2013, I have been overwhelmed by how much people care about the success of one another, care for their clients and customers, and care about giving back to their communities. It is a balanced culture of high performance and incredible giving.

Each year, colleagues in our offices around the globe rally around important causes, donate their time to support charitable organizations and advance community development. This is down at the local level, with colleagues advancing causes that are important to them, and their involvement is fully supported by the Company.

Among some of the WeCARE events our colleagues participated in this year:

Colleagues collected and donated dog leashes, collars, canned food, litter, toys, beds, treats and cleaning products to benefit the non-profit rescue organization, O.S.C.A.R. (One Step Closer Animal Rescue). This organization saves dogs and cats from desperate situations to ensure great futures for all of the rescued pets.

Annually in the spring, we bring some bright colors to the office for two days by celebrating Daffodil Day, during which colleagues sell cut daffodils to raise funds for the American Cancer Society. This is our way to show that the flower of spring brings a season of hope!

For another spring project, colleagues teamed up, put gloves on and volunteered on their own personal weekend time to help clean up and restore the natural beauty of a local reservation, clearing up branches, spreading mulch, and cleaning windows, tables and the inside of a barn where local meeting are held. We even brought a chainsaw to help chop up trees that had been knocked down during recent storms.

“This event went very well, the sun was shining! It was a great day to get together outside of the office with my colleagues to help bring back life to the park,” says Robyn Carbonara of our New Jersey office.

For our next WeCARE event, we traded in the chainsaw and dirt for dresses and ties, as we reserved a table at a local chapter of the American Red Cross fundraising Gala. Colleagues were not only red carpet dressed but also had the pleasure of sitting amongst our clients. This was a great event to connect with our clients and Celebrate Red together!

The summer heat didn’t stop us from our next event, as we laced up our sneakers and filled up our water bottles to run in the Verizon Corporate Classic 5k, benefitting the Jersey Battered Women’s Service Inc. (JBWS).

We pulled the sneakers out again for our first annual Relay for Life event as 100 colleagues, including one of the event leaders who is a 10-year cancer survivor, walked to support the American Cancer Society

For our next events, we put our aprons on, as we volunteered in a series of food charities, beginning with a bake sale, a food drive and several food pantry donations. We sold delicious sweet treats to support the Habitat for Humanity; donated canned goods, food and supplies to support a local Veterans Food Bank; and held a 50/50 raffle to support local food pantries. Seeing our colleagues generously contribute to the pot and our raffle winner donate 50% of her winnings back to the cause was another great example of our WeCARE culture.

To sweeten up our efforts, we held a pie smash contest to support UNICEF. Our participating managers had jars outside their office and colleagues would donate money to whichever manager they wish to see get “pied.” We raised $200 for UNICEF and enjoyed (and perhaps laughed a bit too much) watching the top three selected managers get pied!

With back to school time for some right around the corner, we held a backpack fundraiser to benefit foster children at the Morris County Foster Parents Association. Colleagues donated money, school supplies, backpacks and small clothing items to stuff 40 backpacks for children in their communities.

While there’s still a lot of 2018 left, it’s already been a full year of charitable giving. Thank you to all of the colleagues who participated; your efforts are greatly appreciated and demonstrate how our culture of Legendary Service transcends the workplace and impacts the communities we live in.

“Our colleagues have a passion for meaningful work, yet it is their commitment to their communities that spawned our iCARE/WeCARE initiative, built on Legendary Service and the associated performance we deliver to and for our clients, and an equally-focused spirit of servant-leadership in our communities, as evidenced by so many diverse and amazing charities our colleagues in our global offices support, year in and year out,” says Chris.
