The AI Impact: How It’s Reshaping Mobility Management 07.25.2024 | Jennifer Connell

Chatbot concept. open AI, Artificial Intelligence.

If there’s one thing that became crystal clear during the recent CrowdStrike outage, it’s that our world is more interconnected than ever. The outage caused a domino effect, temporarily throwing travel plans, hospital systems, and schedules into a whirlwind of chaos.

But hey, at least it was only temporary, right?

This whole fiasco got me thinking about how AI is sneaking its way into our everyday business processes like a ninja in the night.  While AI wasn’t the culprit this time, it’s becoming a regular player in the business world. From analyzing data and automating boring, repetitive tasks to improving customer service with chatbots and making smarter decisions with predictive analytics…AI is everywhere. Financial organizations are using it to detect fraud, and supply chain managers are relying on it to forecast demand and optimize routes. It’s like having your own super-smart sidekick for your business adventures!

AI’s Impact on Global Mobility

For all of the accolades and — let’s face it — all the hype across virtually every industry, this is something that we can all get behind. AI is poised to revolutionize relocation programs in several impactful ways, by enhancing efficiency, personalization, and overall effectiveness.

Today… Creating Efficiencies in Existing Roles

We have already begun to benefit by eliminating some of the repetitive or redundant tasks involved in Global Mobility programs. Just a few of the tasks involve expense processing, invoicing, payments, reporting, responding to requests for quotes and policy management (Chat GPT). The result is that it enables corporate managers and relocation partners like Weichert’s Counselors to utilize AI in a human-centric way, by staying focused on the stakeholders involved, whether they be the employees, HR Business Partners, Talent Acquisition or leadership.

In other words, less time administering the program and more time dedicated to the customer and on strategy. The following are a list of ways we’re seeing and discussing AI being used in the mobility industry:

Area Description
Streamlining Financial Administration AI automates repetitive financial tasks such as categorizing support documentation, processing expense reports, managing allowances, and facilitating supplier payments. This leads to faster payments, improved data integrity, and reduced compliance risks.
Enhancing Customer Service AI-powered chatbots and virtual assistants handle common relocation-related queries, providing instant responses and ensuring quick access to relevant information. This improves the overall employee experience and allows customer service teams to focus on more complex, personalized needs.
Improving Decision-Making By integrating mobility data with other information sources, AI provides deep insights into talent management. This helps companies attract and retain talent more effectively, reduce biases in decision-making, and maximize the return on investment in their mobility programs.
Personalizing Employee Experience AI analyzes employee preferences and past relocation experiences to tailor relocation packages and support services. This personalization ensures that employees feel valued and supported throughout the relocation process.
Optimizing Relocation Processes AI predicts potential challenges and streamlines various aspects of the relocation process, from housing searches to school placements for employees’ children. This proactive approach minimizes disruptions and enhances the overall relocation experience.
Ensuring Compliance AI assists mobility managers in navigating complex immigration laws and cross-border regulations by providing up-to-date information and automating compliance checks. This reduces the risk of legal issues and ensures smooth international transfers.
Cost Management AI analyzes and projects relocation costs, helping companies budget more accurately and identify cost-saving opportunities. This financial foresight is crucial for managing large-scale relocation programs efficiently.

For the most, part AI is leading to further streamlining and development of new roles and opportunities. Stay tuned for the next installment of this blog post, where I’ll reveal some of the emerging mobility roles we can expect to see as the demand for AI-focused skills skyrockets.
